Happy New Year! I hope you had a relaxing holiday with friends and family.
To kick off 2025, I’d like to share a bit about my background – where I’ve come from, what I’ve achieved, and most importantly, how I can support you in reaching your financial goals this year.
My journey
I’m originally from Malaysia and migrated to New Zealand as a teenager. Raised by a single mother, I experienced significant financial challenges at a young age.
In my 20s, I was fortunate to meet financial mentors who taught me the importance of budgeting, understanding assets and liabilities, the purpose of insurance, and how KiwiSaver and investments work.
After paying off my student and consumer loans, my wife and I worked hard to save for our first home deposit. We took on multiple jobs and even house-sat to reduce costs – a story that was featured in Stuff News.
Following several years of working in banking, I decided to become a Financial Adviser. This role allows me to help families buy their first home, build their wealth and protect what is important to them. In my first year at NZHL, I was honoured to receive their Rookie of the Year award and to be recognised as one of the top advisers in New Zealand.
Building success
We worked hard to build our first home, and with the right loan structure and expert advice, we achieved one of our biggest milestones – paying off our home loan in 2020!
Since then, we’ve continued to grow our portfolio, which required a great deal of discipline and guidance from Financial Advisers and mentors.
